Kerala State Lotteries

Lottery Falls Under the Government’s Jurisdiction
In Kerala, the lottery has been around for long. The industry employs around 1,25,000 people, including agents and sellers.
Earlier, there were often complaints of lack of transparency. But, these issues were addressed by the enactment of the State Government Law implemented in 2005. The law puts lottery under the direct regulation of the government with the right to inspect processes such as printing of tickets, controlling sales and monitoring the rules.
With GST (Goods and Services Tax), this law became inoperative and the state government is planning to come out with a new law. The State Government was looking towards hitting the revenue of INR 7,000 crore before GST.
Big distributors, working as a cartel, pocketed the profits, but with the GST implementation, things are more transparent. The Goods and Services Tax proved to be a revenue booster for lottery-friendly states.
Types of Weekly Kerala Lotteries
The Kerala state lottery was established in 1967 and it was the first of its kind in the country.
Today, several weekly lotteries are running in the state with different draw days and prize structures. There are a few bumper lotteries too.
These are:
♦ Win-Win, the draw of which happens on every Monday. The first prize is of 65,00,000/- and the ticket prize is Rs 30.
♦ Pournami, again, with a ticket prize of Rs 30 but with a top prize of 70,00,000/- is drawn on every Sunday.
♦ Sthreesakthi is drawn on every Tuesday and the ticket can be bought for Rs 30 for the first prize amounting to Rs 60,00,000/-.
♦ Akshaya has the same ticket cost and first prize as Sthreesakthi. The only difference is that the day of draw for it is on Wednesday.
♦ Pratheeksha, which was renamed as Karunya Plus, is drawn on every Thursday. The ticket for the same can be bought at Rs 40 and the top prize in this is of Rs 80,00,000/-
♦ The ticket prize of Karunya is also Rs 40 and draw happens on every Saturday. The first prize here is same as that in Karunya Plus at Rs 80,00,000/-.
Thus, you can see that tickets are very reasonably priced and you can win a good amount of money, which lures people to buy tickets for it.
Besides these weekly draws, there are other categories of lotteries like Bumper Lotteries. They are mostly seasonal, which are available around festival time like Vishu, Onam, Christmas and New Year.
